Advanced Security & Synchronisation

Precision Time Protocol (PTP) Synchronisation

Ethernet-based nanosecond-precision timing synchronisation using IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP), built on ZYNQ ZCU102 and Raspberry Pi 5 with optional GPS integration. Essential for any distributed QKD or quantum networking deployment. (TRL-3)

ZYNQ ZCU102 Platform

  • ✓Running Peta-Linux with PTP4L Library
  • ✓Hardware-assisted IEEE 1588 timestamping
  • ✓Ultra-Scale+ FPGA fabric for deterministic latency

Raspberry Pi 5 Node

  • ✓Hardware Time-Stamping support
  • ✓Cost-effective scalable network node
  • ✓NEO-M9N GPS Module with Patch Antenna for UTC reference

Synchronisation Methods

Through Quantum Channel
Bright Pulse of Different Frequency for in-band synchronisation
Through Classical Channel
GPS with RPI/FPGA Boards for out-of-band Ethernet sync

PUF Based Device Authentication

Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) exploit the inherent manufacturing variations in FPGA hardware to create a unique, unclonable device fingerprint. Our Novel Ring Oscillator PUF provides quantum-safe, hardware-rooted device identity for authenticating nodes in QKD networks. (TRL-6)

Physical
A physical entity — not software or a stored key
Unclonable
Cannot be replicated, even by the original manufacturer
Function
Challenge-response pairs form unique device identity

Novel Ring Oscillator Architecture

Implemented on FPGA boards, the Novel Ring Oscillator PUF design generates strong, stable challenge-response pairs. Each device has a statistically unique fingerprint determined by quantum-mechanical manufacturing variations — providing a quantum-safe root of trust without any software secrets.
